If an afternoon at IKEA in West Chester sounds taunting, get in survival mode with a few drinks at nearby craft beer oasis Dogberry Brewing…
West Chester, Ohio… Union Centre exit. The land of IKEA. Normally, this exit off I-75 just north of Cincinnati causes us anxiety as we imagine fighting through the crowds of folks searching for their low-cost Swedish stylings. It’s a place sure to test even the healthiest relationships. Then we found our saving grace, a little oasis of relief just across the street: Dogberry Brewing.
Tucked quietly into an industrial park just a stone’s throw from IKEA, Dogberry can wash away all the stress from your shopping nightmares with delicious beer and a tap room specializing in “chill.”
We made our way to Dogberry one Sunday afternoon and found owner Tony Meyer relaxing at the bar, enjoying a beer, and chatting newbies like us as they walked in the door. For Tony, his little oasis was and is truly a labor of love. With the support of his wife and kids, Tony left his “real” job to join up with a fellow home brewer and open Dogberry. The co-founder has since moved on, but Tony has doubled-down, opening their current location and brewing more and more beer each month.
It’s never been about getting rich with beer for Tony. It’s been all about enriching others with his beer. The hard work and long hours have all been worth it for him to sit and watch folks like us experience Dogberry’s fantastic beers for the first time.
As with all of our brewery articles, we never get into the nitty-gritty on the beers since we like any beer you pour in a glass. We’ll just say the variety of styles we tried were all fantastic, a nod to Tony’s background in science. Brewing is an art, but it’s an art only made beautiful by science.
The tap room, surrounded by throngs of industrial buildings, is like a little hidden gem. A beautiful wood bar-top is flanked by couches, skee-ball, pop-a-shot, classic Nintendo games, darts, and more to create a perfect place to unwind after work. Dogberry doesn’t have a kitchen, but you can bring your own food. They also host food trucks quite frequently.
So if you’re curious how to make a trip to IKEA bearable, start and end it with a beer at Dogberry. If you’re really lucky, your partner will just leave you at Dogberry and handle IKEA on their own. That, friends, is true love.
Whether you’re headed to West Chester IKEA for shopping, Top Golf for a little fun with friends, or just in search of good local beer in West Chester, Dogberry Brewing is a spot you won’t want to miss.
